Asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL):

A type of DSL service, an evolving high-speed transmission technology that uses the existing UTP copper wires from the telephone company's central office to the subscriber's premises. It requires ADSL modems at both locations. Asymmetric means the line has different speeds away from and toward the user.
